ZONTA SERVICE PROJECTS

The Zonta Club of Hobart provides service to women and girls in our community across a range of areas including health, mental illness, education, sexual assault, family violence and homelessness. It works closely with other non-for-profit organisations including Hobart City Mission, Colony 47, Engender Equality, Migrant Resource Centre and Hobart based women's refuges.

BREAST CARE CUSHIONS

For over 10 years the Zonta Club of Hobart has been providing breast cushions to women who have undergone breast surgery at Calvary Hospital. The cushions aid recovery allowing the women to sit, sleep and rest comfortably as well as providing protection while walking around and cushioning seat belts when they are required to be used.

GIRLS EDUCATION

Zonta Hobart recognised the importance of education for girls. We aim to provide them with the necessary skills and knowledge to enable them to achieve gender equality as they move through life both personally and professionally. Recently the club has provided educational scholarship to girls participating in Kennerly Children's "Moving On" Program. This program supports young people who are unable to continue to live in a family enviroment but are committed to continue their education through years 11, 12 and beyond

FUNDING FOR WOMEN FLEEING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

As a result of our fund-raising efforts, Zonta Hobart has been able to make considerable donations to a number of women's refuges. These donations have enabled the purchase of items such as toiletries, manchester, nightwear for their children, vouchers for household items etc. At Christmas members donate gifts to the women residing in some of these refuges.
