History of Zonta Hobart

Zonta Hobart was formed in 1971 and chartered formally in 1972.  It was the first club to be established in Tasmania (now Area 5).

Zonta Hobart holds a number of events and activities to raise funds to support improving the lives of women and girls, especially where disadvantage is being experienced.  Fundraising events include cocktail parties, luncheons and quiz nights incorporating silent auctions, Bunnings BBQS and raffles.  Currently it is in the process of organising a major online raffle to be conducted in 2022.

In 2021 Zonta Hobart provided educational scholarships for girls at Kennerly Homes and assisted the refurbishment of Caroline House by the Hobart City Mission.

Zonta  was founded in Buffalo New York State USA in 1919. The name Zonta is a Native American Sioux Indian word meaning, "honest and trustworthy". It was adopted to symbolise the combined qualities of honesty and trust, inspiration and the ability to work together for service and world understanding.
